For the 35th anniversary of the Air Jordan 6, Jordan Brand and Awake NY revisit one of Michael Jordan’s most recognizable silhouettes through a distinctly New York lens.
The Awake NY x Air Jordan 6 “Blueberry” plays with the idea of luxury by borrowing from the visual language of the bootleg. At first glance, the exaggerated colour blocking, unconventional stitching and altered branding give the shoe an almost unofficial quality. Look closer, and the opposite becomes clear. Premium materials, deliberate construction and refined detailing reinforce the craftsmanship expected from both Jordan Brand and Awake NY.
The upper brings together Midnight Navy and Light Blue leather with Game Royal nubuck, creating a layered blue palette interrupted by Sail accents and sharp hits of Infrared 23. Contrasting stitching further exaggerates the paneling of the AJ6, while Awake NY’s signature crown branding adds another layer to the collaboration without losing the identity of the original silhouette.
Classic Air Jordan 6 details remain intact, including the sculpted tongue, lace pocket, toggles and visible Nike Air cushioning in the heel and forefoot. The result sits somewhere between familiar and unexpected, pulling a championship-era basketball icon into Awake NY’s contemporary streetwear world.
Built around the tension between past and present, official and unofficial, sport and street, the “Blueberry” takes the AJ6 somewhere new without losing sight of what made it an icon in the first place.
