Quincy Mathew Hanley, better known by his recording name Schoolboy Q, is an American hip hop artist whose emergence to the scene has been a true revelation for all music lovers. Hailing from LA but born in Germany, Schoolboy Q had many influential stages in his life that he was able to bring into his musical career and identity. At age 16 Schoolboy Q wrote his first verse, but didn’t think much of it and instead continued to excel in his beloved sport of football. By 21, however, Schoolboy realized he had talent and potential in the music industry, and began making his first bit of bread working with Jay Rock and Ab-Soul. The release of his first mixtape, ‘Schoolboy Turned Hustla’ in 2008 gave the west coast rapper the push he needed to give his career global exposure, and he signed to Top Dawg Entertaining shortly after. In 2009, Schoolboy released his second mixtape titled ‘Gangsta & Soul’, his first official project since signing to TDE. The following years found Schoolboy working and releasing his first two albums, ‘Setbacks’ and ‘Habits & Contradictions’, which found success through digital distribution and an iTunes release. More recently Schoolboy Q released his major label debut and first physical release with the album ‘Oxymoron’, featuring the singles Collard Greens, Man of the Year, Break the Bank, Hell of a Night and many more, giving him a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album 2015.
